JioPhone has already witnessed a whopping 6 million pre-orders, and Reliance Jio is expected to start the deliveries by September 21, 2017.
Reliance Jio has witnessed over 6 million JioPhone bookings within its very first day. This report is made according to the sources that are close to the company. The bookings for the low-cost feature phone started on August 24, 2017. The bookings continued until the early half of August 26. And then, the company stopped taking JioPhone’s pre-orders, including both online and offline. It appears that the 6 million JioPhone bookings have far away exceeded Reliance Jio’s expectations. This is opposed to what the Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani had officially declared at the time of unveiling the handset. Back then, the company already aimed at delivering 5 million units per week.
Previously, Reliance Jio had stopped the bookings for its first feature phone. They halted it because “millions” had already booked the Jiophone. The company, however, did not give a concrete figure on how many people booked it. Other than the 6 million bookings, an extra 10 million people have registered their interest in the handset. These 10 million people have updated themselves on the Keep Me Posted form on the company’s site, as per the reports.
Reliance Jio is all set to sell 100 million units of the JioPhone in its first. The company also aims to sell another 100 million units the following year. With a number as huge as 200 million units, Reliance will be able to rope in all those consumers who did not join the Jio telecom network that was launched the previous year. And this was majorly because of the exorbitant costs of the smartphones. At the July 21 AGM, Ambani had declared that the company currently has a user base of 125 million. As per the recent reports, half of the smartphones shipped in the second quarter of this year are LTE-enabled. So, the Jio membership is expected to hit a whopping 90 percent level. With the 4G VoLTE-enabled Jio Phone in the market, the production of 4G phones is quite likely to fasten up.
The JioPhone Delivery Date
The JioPhone deliveries will start from Navratri onwards. Navratri is set to begin from September 21 2017. This will give a halt to the confusion that arose on the JioPhone delivery date. This is because the company has not yet declared an official schedule, except that the handset will start shipping sometime in September. The bookings for the first ever Jio-branded phone from metro cities, tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and the rural areas in more or less the same amount.
The procedure for booking the JioPhone had some initial glitches. This is because the demand for the handset way exceeded the Jio.com website and MyJio app’s server capacity. Thus, the users were not capable of placing their orders for the first hour or so. However, the problems smoothened out later on. The bookings then went on until the next day. The app, website, and authorized offline stores are the only ways to pre-book your handset. Early on August 26 2017, the bookings were halted. Then, the company asked its prospective customers to sign up to get notifications for the next sale via its official website.
At present, both the MyJio app and an IVR number don’t necessarily provide much information on the JioPhone’s delivery status. On the other hand, Jio sources say that September 21 is the date for start of deliveries. We hope the wait gets just a tad bit easier with an expected date in mind. Of course, it is also possible that the deliveries will be made in stages. This will majorly depend on how early you were able to place the order. The phone is “essentially free.” But, the buyers will have to pay 1,500 INR as a security deposit, which is divided into two parts. You have to 500 INR at the time of booking the device, and then pay the remaining 1,000 INR at the time of picking up your handset.
