iPhone sales in India might drop again this year; says a GFK report. With Apple’s unsuccessful attempt at selling its iPhones in India for the past few years, this result seems almost inevitable. Find out more in these reports!
iPhone Sales In India
We had earlier written about the iPhone sales to turn out to be disappointing. According to a recent report issued by GFK, which is one of the largest market research company in India, the iPhone sales in India might encounter a significant drop, just like the previous years. Apple has been struggling for the past 2-3 years, to make a profit in India through the iPhone sales. And, this might be one of the major reasons why it might not make any profits again this year.
Just last year, Apple suffered a big blow to its face when iPhone sales in India declined drastically. If we look at the stats from previous year, we’ll observe that other brands were comparatively, doing a better job at phone sales. They were offering smartphones with better features and that too, at a much lesser range than the iPhones. Therefore, the sudden hike in their sales was quite predictable. And even though, Apple had slashed the prices on its previous iPhones, it still couldn’t make much profits, unfortunately. The recent GfK report justifies this result. It states that,
“Apple’s current share by value is 6.3 percent, which is less than Oppo and slightly above than Lyf mobiles.”
This year, Apple has launched two new iPhones internationally – iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. These devices have been receiving a tremendous response from customers abroad. Their ever-increasing sales even forced the company to take pre-orders for the phones. With their launch in India due on October 7 and Samsung Galaxy Note 7 clearly out of the picture due to its recent battery fire incidents, we can say that Apple still has a ray of hope. The iPhone sales in India might shoot up if they receive a good response here, as well. But being an economy which banks on affordable phones and a limited budget, it is still dicy whether iPhones will do better in India, sales-wise or not. All of us are aware of Apple’s high-pricing regime in India, aren’t we?
Nevertheless, for the sale of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple is taking help from big e-commerce stores like Flipkart and Amazon. Both the devices will be available in three variants – 32GB, 128GB and 256GB. iPhone 7 is priced at INR 60,000, INR 70,000 and INR 80,000, respectively (as per the three variants). While iPhone 7 Plus is priced at INR 72,000, INR 82,000 and INR 92,000, respectively. Along with the launch of these phones, Apple also has a special surprise in store for all iPhone users. This festive season, it is bringing down the price of iPhone 5S to INR 20,990. There was also iPhone 6s price cut for the Indian market by INR 22,000.
With the impending launch of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and the drop in iPhone 5S prices, all that’s is left to see is whether Apple will be able to turn the tables, this time around or not? Will the iPhone sales in India see the day of light or will they suffer another blow at the hands of this “budget-oriented” economy? We’ll just have to wait and watch!
