Lenovo to launch Smartphones under Rs 5,000. There is a growing concern over the dwindling sales of Personal Computers (PCs) all over and Lenovo is no exception. To fight that, the company is looking into the possible healthy market of Smartphones.
According to IDC that does independent research and marketing, in 2011 around 363 million PCs were shipped as against the 349 million PCs in the ensuing year. The fall is expected to continue by at least 8% in 2013.
Lenovo will be launching Smartphones priced under Rs 5,000. As far as the Indian market is concerned, Lenovo has a target of selling at least one million Smartphones in this year only.
For that, Lenovo is planning to have gadgets that are tagged under Rs. 5000. Nick Reynolds, who is the Executive Director – Worldwide Product Marketing of the company said that many people are looking to upgrade to Smartphones from feature phones.
Such devices are a good choice for such markets, Mr. Reynolds feels. That is why the price range of the Smartphones is one thing that needs to be looked at minutely. In China alone, Lenovo sells around 60 various models. For the Indian market, the number of models is likely to increase.
However, the Indian market saw a surge of PCs in the last year. The rise was by about 3.5% and touched 11 million. However, it was due to some special projects in Tamil Nadu and demand for notebooks.
The real challenge for Lenovo lies in taking on big players like Nokia and Samsung that came in the Smartphone business much before Lenovo jumped in. However, Lenovo will be investing on marketing and advertising for its business in Smartphones and tabs.
