Sony might launch a Windows Phone gadget in the middle of this year, reports say. This could be good news for Nokia, as the Finnish company has been almost going around alone supporting the Windows Phone platform. Nokia can certainly find a partner in Sony.
The Information, has reported that the US-based web giant Microsoft is having talks with Sony that could make way for launching a Smartphone that will run on the Windows Phone operating system. The report further speaks of Sony coming up with a gadget in the middle of this year.
Sony may launch the phone under their Vaio line up of gadgets. The Vaio gadgets have been in the Indian market for a long time now and the devices under this model are desktops, notebooks, etc.
A report from Engadget also says that the Redmond company is having talks with ZTE – the Chinese handset making company. They hope to find another business partner through the talks. But, it must be mentioned that Microsoft hasn’t yet come to any concrete decision either with ZTE or with Sony.
There were reports earlier that Microsoft was making attempts to bring in the market the tablet and mobile ecosystem and for that they are contemplating offering free versions of the Windows RT as well as Windows Phone to the device manufacturers. The report also speaks of Microsoft seriously considering offering these free versions of the OS in the future.
Nokia has almost 90 per cent of the market share in the Windows Phone platform with HTC coming a distant second with 7 per cent. Samsung and Huawei together make up for the remaining market share.
