Consumers today are demanding more and more flexibility when it comes to their television packages and TV Everywhere app could be one of the solutions. They want to dictate when and where they watch their favourite shows which is why many providers are now offering mobile apps to allow streaming from your tv service.
Let’s take a closer look at how such apps are allowing consumers to view TV on the go.
TV Everywhere App
A growing number of cable and satellite providers are now giving their subscribers the chance to watch their favourite movies and television shows no matter where they are and it has all been made possible with the help of TV Everywhere apps. This initiative is the collective branding that covers all of these provider apps including the likes of HBO Go, FX Now, Watch ESPN and many more. The popularity of these types of apps is sky-rocketing with recent reports suggesting that 21 percent of American households are now using them. This is helping tv providers to combat the increase in so called cord cutters who are cancelling their subscriptions in favour of premium streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu.
How to Use a TV Everywhere App
Regardless of who your cable or satellite provider actually is, the process for accessing your subscription on the go is pretty much the same. All you have to do is download the appropriate app onto your mobile device. Almost all of the major television providers offer an iOS app which can be used on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. However, the support for Android is not as widespread although the number of apps available on the Google Play store is growing all the time.
What will differ from on provider to the next is what you can actually watch via the app. This all depends on your provider and the package that you are currently subscribed to. It can be a little bit confusing, but each television provider has to negotiate their own deal with each channel. That is why some of these apps will allow you to watch only a restricted number of programs and why others can only be used within the reach of your own Wifi connections while others can be used anywhere. It is important to check with your provider which channels you will be able to watch using their app. This can vary between packages with the same provider. For example those who subscribe to directv international packages may not be able to watch their foreign language programming via the app. However, subscribers to other DirectTv packages may have access to their entire subscription via the app.
What are People Watching?
So, now that we are no longer chained to our television sets how are we using our new found viewing freedom? Kids programming is a very popular choice with many youngsters viewing kids TV on their tablets while their parents watch adult programs on the television. Sports is also incredibly popular. In fact, just last year every FIFA World Cup match was streamed via the WatchESPN service so that viewers could access the tournament form wherever they were. This was a great feature since time zone issues meant that many of the matches were scheduled during the work day.
Mobile apps from television providers are making television more accessible to those subscribers who have busy lives and don’t want to be chained to a television set. The availability of these apps is also going some way to combating the rise in cord cutters who are cancelling their subscriptions.
