In a shocking development the owners of mobile handset company Micromax, have been arrested in a bribery case. The arrests were carried out by the CBI – Central Bureau of Investigation as they supposedly got the tip-off of a deal between engineers of a civic body for getting clearance for a certain construction.
Apart from Micromax Informatics’ Rajesh Agrawal and Manish Tuli, CBI also arrested a couple of junior officials of the corporation. CBI then carried out more searches at around 15 different locations that also include the residence and authorized premises of the MCD officers.
It is understood that Micromax wanted a clearance for the construction of a banquet hall. They were alleged to have paid a bribe of Rs. 50 lakhs. However, the amount was later fixed at Rs. 30 lakhs. The bribe was allegedly paid to the North Delhi Municipal Corporation engineers.
According to the CBI sources, they got a tip-off that a deal was likely to be struck between the mobile company and some of the officials of the corporation. The company needed a clearance for constructing the hall in Wazirpur locality.
It is known that the MCD officials were asking for a bribe of Rs. 50 lakhs, however, it was brought down by Rs. 20 lakhs after negotiations.
None of the officials or spokespersons from Micromax was immediately available for comment on these shocking turn of events.
