India is fast becoming an internet hub and the number of internet users is constantly increasing. According to a report, by 2014, Internet users in India are expected to reach 243 million. Actually this increase is estimated to be around 18.53 per cent in around eight months only.
The report has been published by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB International.
If that figure is achieved, there will be 24.3 crores internet users in India by the middle of the next year. One important aspect of the high number of internet users is the mobile. There is a growing number of users who access internet via the mobile and so this rise.
By this time, India may also overtake the United States as the second largest country in the world to have such a strong internet base. 24.3 crore internet users means 243 million internet users, which will be second only to China. China currently has in excess of 300 million users, while the US comes in second with about 207 million such users.
According to the report, the number of internet users in India is 205 million until October 2013. There has been a 40 per cent growth on year-on-year basis. By the end of this year, the number will expectedly reach 21.3 crores.
The rise of internet in India was a bit slow to start with. Initially, India required almost a decade to see internet users grow from 10 million users to 100 million users. However, the rise was phenomenal as it needed just three more years to move from 100 million users to 200 million users.
Until October the number of users was around 11 crores and by the year end, the same will rise up to 13 crores. That’s exceptional growth by its own standards. And even more growth is on the cards as more and more mobile internet users are constantly getting added to this list.
